Doing the Dishes
Throughout my studenthood, I despised doing the dishes. My brother and I, who shared a flat, were so lazy that we only put matters into our hands, when there was no other alternative. This meant that a typical dishwashing session lasted for at least 90 minutes.
Everything changed when we got a dishwasher.
Not everyone has a dishwasher
My dishwasher bliss only lasted until I moved to my next apartment, where I had to do the dishwashing again manually. Ughhhh.
Several hours a week were spent on washing the dishes. This phase lasted two years, until I entered another phase of automated dishwashing.
Dishwashing personalities
I wonder if there are different dishwashing personalities:
- The Soaker: soaks containers of crockery with hot water and puts in dishwashing liquid.
- The Flooder: floods the entire kitchen sink with hot water and puts in dishwashing liquid.
- The Purist: does neither soak nor flood but uses little to no water and/or little to no dishwashing liquid, which explains why crockery is so often dirty in Airbnbs!
Me, I'm a Soaker!
Finding your inner dish washer
A wise man once told me that washing the dishes was when he felt most at peace. Today, when I do the dishes and soak away, I think of that wise man.
And then I really enjoy doing the dishes.
